1/2 Day Silica & Lead Awareness (AM) (#NB2655)

Presented in live webinar format.  Participants will be able to ask questions live through chat format or by using their computer’s microphone. This will be a web-based solution and will not require any software or online registrations of any kind. Details on how to access this course on the scheduled date will be emailed to participants prior to the course’s commencement.

Who should participate?

The course is designed for, but not limited to, the following personnel: building owners, operators, architects, engineers, designers, abatement contractors, maintenance staff, trade workers (plumbers, HVAC, electrical), health and safety representatives, consultants, estimators and specification writers.This course is designed for anyone involved with, working around or having the potential to be exposed to silica or lead containing materials.

Silica Course Outline:

  • What is Crystalline Silica?
  • Health Effects Associated with Silica Exposure (Introduction, silicosis, signs & symptoms of exposure, symptoms of related illnesses, other conditions)
  • Where is Crystalline Silica found? (What are the uses of silica?)
  • How and why does exposure occur (How you know you’ve been exposed, read labels, MSDS review)
  • Industry Silica Regulations (Exposure limits, air monitoring, testing for silica dust)
  • How do you reduce the exposures to silica? (What control measures are there?)
  • Personal Protection (Introduction, Training Programs, Safe Working Practices, Air Purifying Respirators, Air Line Respirators, Fit Testing, Respirator Programs)

Lead Course Outline:

  • Lead Exposure – Introduction (Symptoms of lead poisoning)
  • Exposure Standard for Construction (Purpose, Methods of Exposure, Exposure Limits, Written Compliance Plan, Monitoring and Analysis, Employee Training, Safe Work Practices, Medical Surveillance)
  • Review and Conclusions

Upon completion of this course each attendee will receive a certificate of completion.
